After 25 years of work as a graphic artist in Minneapolis MN, we moved to a farmhouse on the priairie in Western Minnesota. My husband had just retired from construction and this was our dream. Wide open spaces, hunting, fishing, a garden and quiet time together. After a three year job search I found my dream job.
In 2010 I became the house artist for Rausch Brothers Granite Company in Big Stone City, SD. This opportunity exposed me to a whole new world of creative expression using granite as a canvas! In 2012 I set out on a quest to learn diamond etching and was awarded a Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council Legacy Grant allowing me to travel to Elberton, GA and study with Anne Jensen. In this unique mentor-ship I not only learned diamond etching but also a unique process to colorize my work. Diamond etching is achieved by removing the polish from the surface of the granite using a diamond tipped rotary tool. The diamond bit is roughly the size of a sharpened pencil. Color is then applied to the unpolished areas using a special stone paint.
